Book Signing At Davis Kidd [01 Jul 2010|08:19pm]

valarltd
http://www.memphisflyer.com/memphis/con-fab/Content?oid=2158560

A fabled gem and the fabled isles of Atlantis. An apprentice magician and 13th-century English folklore. Dragons and wizards and ... what's this? ... the curse of the pharaoh's manicurists. Fables, faeries, and folklore etc. may be the stuff of sci-fi and fantasy, but the "curse" belongs to Angelia Sparrow and co-author Naomi Brooks. Their novel The Curse of the Pharaoh's Manicurists crosses the paranormal with the archeological, and it travels from London to Paris to the tomb of Ni-ankh-khnum and Khnum-ho-tep, overseers of the royal fingernails in the palace of the king of Egypt. (And speaking of fantasy, the book is also a gay love story between a Dartmouth grad and a World War I flying ace.)

Go read the rest. And Memphis folk come on out!

(BTW, I'm Angelia Sparrow)

Giggle Party with The Original Cyndi Friday at Odessa [12 Nov 2009|05:49am]

dodge_vegomatic

On Friday the 13th, Odessa hosts the hyperactive Texas indie-pop quartet Giggle Party. This fun, frantic group has received critical acclaim and been nominated for both the Dallas Observer and Dallas Quick music awards for Best New Band. They have shared the stage with Matt & Kim, Man Man, Ear Pwr, and Toro Y Moi.

"Ever wonder what Girl Talk would be like if it was a 4 piece band...."

Along side them is Memphis's own The Original Cyndi, a glam garage rock band with a synth sound and an unforgettable floor show.

A fun energetic, crazy evening of music.

Cloutier regularly holds down the decks with Derek P. at the Bunker party in Brooklyn. He's played with Steve Bug, Matt Dear, Ben Klock... He's really an all-around badass and his set is going to melt your fucking face off whilst tickling you between the legs. In a good way.

+ our respectively bitchin' residents, Funkẹ, Adam Arthur & Jackson Lee

This party is being held during the day in order to function as part 1 of a day of madness, part 2 being Miro Pajic at Dish later that evening. And because you people won't stay out of the backyard anyway so we'll just have damn party out there.

MV+EE and the Golden Road w/Sparkroutes at Odessa

Get way out there with us this Tuesday with MV+EE and the Golden Road. The Vermont-based psych/folk duo first blew our minds in January and left us craving more. For those of you who missed the last time, here's a snippet from their MySpace:

"in fact still orbiting the earth in vermont is matt 'mv' valentine, once the brawn of the tower recordings, and erika 'ee' elder, the CEO of Heroine Celestial Agriculture/The MV & EE Medicine Show, together with their dog zuma they run the child of microtones terran library of exploratory music and sing songs with fellow avatars 'the golden road'. sometimes their own lunar blues, sometimes fingerstyle noise/space, sometimes lonesome frontier volk...always environments. you will find many are one and they like to jam together within many guitar dimensions/amp realms...respectfully and yours hanging loose."
